A sequel?
Quite a few readers have asked me about a sequel. So, I’m asking you: What do you think? To sequel or not to sequel? People want to know if Beth survives, if her marriage survives, if the world is truly rid of Jan. What happens to Walter? What are your thoughts?
If there’s going to be a sequel, I’m going to include a lot of back story. So although it wouldn’t really be a prequel, I’ve become very interested in the previous generation….I’ve been reading about the rumrunning on Long Island’s south shore during Prohibition. Very interesting! So I’ve been wondering about Rob’s father and grandfather and what might’ve happened in the 1920s and 30s. That era on Long Island is fascinating to me. And, again, the social and economic background form the characters……..the KKK, the Nazi Party, and the rumrunners were all flourishng on LI, while the police and politicians were often on both sides of the law.
As far as the characters are concerned, I’m curious about so many of them — Rob’s parents and grandparents, for example. How did Rob’s father grow up “down the water,” yet develop into such a unique individual? How did that happen? What about Lynette? She must’ve had quite a background! And who was Jan’s father? Walter’s father? Did these people ever leave Shelter Bay? If not, how did the same environment create such different worldviews? And what was it like for Beth’s parents when they first moved to Shelter Bay?
As far as the “current” generation, what do you think of Rob and Beth? Is there a core of decency within Rob that he can draw on? Can he become the man of integrity that he portrayed himself to be? Or is it too late for him? Should Rob and Beth try to save the marriage? Or should she just concentrate on her health and her daughter? Is Rob worth it?
Will someone call Beth’s parents? If they come up from Florida, what will they find?
Let me know what you think!
